From My Notebook... The Cocoa Daisy January Kits!

Hello, hello! Can you believe we are right on the cusp of a new year? Its amazing how time goes, it really is! And, with the onset of a new year, we also have the onset of a new kit... the January 2016 Notebook kits from Cocoa Daisy, to be exact!

Let's have a look at all the goodies...

Totally cute, right?

Now here is what I made...

First up... an art journal spread! I have a process video coming soon for this too. I just fell in love with the gorgeous animals from the January planner kit, and I had to get artsy and play with them!
Next, we have a simple, but super fun and cute card. This uses both the adorable owls from the DITL kit as well as an awesome acetate word from Heidi Swapp...

Next up, lots of little bits from all the kits were included on this page. I will have a process video coming of this one too!

Hello feathers! Love them, and put them to use on this card here:

Exclusive wood veneer pencils and glasses? Yes please!

A plaid, wired ribbon and a bicycle full of hearts make the perfect pair on this valentine inspired card...

Up next, I am documenting a special family moment, using lots of patterned paper and some of the lovely clips, turned flair badges from the build your own add on...

Here we have some gorgeous layered tags and a fussy cut jar full of hearts from the DITL kit...

A mixed media card full of lots of little bits is up next...
For this layout, I put to use some of the amazingly gorgeous exclusive paper and gold vellum butterfly....

And lastly, a fun combination of patterns here as I document that time the baby jumped out of her crib, so we wedged an air mattress under it...
whatever works, right???

Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to head on over to cocoadaisy.com for all the goodies!

December Daily... My Take... and an Update...

Remember my take on the documenting December this year?

I started with this...

And had the intention of only jotting down memories and adding photos here and there, little itty bitty snippets at a time...

Well, this has proved very useful and wonderfully stress free as we are smack in the middle of a major home renovation!
So, as you can see in the photo above, I added a photo of the renovations...
As well as a few more photos from the month's happenings...
And that's it! Less than 5 minutes, for the whole month of December, has been devoted to my "December Daily." And really, most of that time was taken up with printing the photos!

I just love the stress-free nature of this. I plan to add in a couple more photos and some journaling too. I'll keep you posted...

Handmade and Upcycled Christmas...

In a recent post, I shared some handmade wrapping and upcycling. Well, the wrapping was not all that was made this way!

I recently found piles of painterly baby wipes on my studio table after an extended art journaling session. They were so pretty, I didn't want to throw them away...
So, I quilted them into a book...

And gave it as a gift!
I hope she liked it!
Here's to a very handmade and MERRY Christmas!

Filled With Photos...

Do you remember how I prepped pocket pages for October and November? Well, I figured since tomorrow is Christmas... I should check in a show you how these spreads ended up!

You can check out the post and video for October HERE and
you can check out the post and video for November HERE.

All caught up? Great!

Now, here is the before picture of October:

And here is the after:

And again for November:

And the after:

What was the trick to making this work?
Well, as is evident in the photos above... making interactive flaps! I knew i was going to go this route, so I didn't feel at all limited in either design or photos.

These were really fun to put together and I love the end result!

Mail Art...

I mentioned in my last post that I recently fell into the "mail art" rabbit hole of the inter-webs...

It is REALLY fun!

Oh, and I fell into the "make your own foam stamps" hole too.

So, I made these stamps....
Then doodled....

And painted up this package...

What's inside?

Stay tuned...

Oh Brother... Christmas Wrapping, and MORE....

(Please note... affiliate links are used throughout this post. Thank you for your continued support!)
Welcome back to another installment of the Oh Brother series... a blog series chronicling my adventures in learning my Brother ScanNCut.

You might remember the fun 3D flowers, turned gift toppers? Well... I couldn't stop making them, so I crafted some up for my Christmas Presents!

Oh, but I didn't stop there! Being in a frugal state of mind as the holidays approach, I decided to craft my own wrapping paper.... out of security envelopes, no less!

Now, this envelope/mail "art" is no new idea... I recently fell into the rabbit hole of mail art and such on the inter-webs and it inspired me...

Here you can see them all lined up and glued together...
Want a more in-depth "how to?" Here are the steps:

  1. Open junk mail. Throw most of it away, except for the return envelopes with fun printing (aka security envelopes) on the inside.
  2. Pull apart the envelopes so they lay flat.
  3. Line them up together, almost like you are piecing together a puzzle.
  4. Using a glue stick, adhere the edges together to form one long, continuous piece of "paper."
  5. Use a spare envelope to cover the clear window portions of the envelopes.
  6. Use your "paper" to wrap gifts as though you would use any piece of wrapping paper.

YAY FUN!

And here is a present wrapped in just that way, topped with one of those fun flower bows!
And, some wooden leaves, red twine, and a little metal circle tag dress things up a bit...
That one long piece of "envelope paper" went a long way...
And here are just a few of the final presents wrapped this way...

AH.... but I was on a roll!

So, thanks to some recent Gelli Printing fun (more on that later) I decided to work up these little wrapped gifts as well...

There's more of those flower bows...

And then, I had some scraps from what I did with the larger gifts and I used them to cover a plain white envelope...

Complete with a cut off envelope window as a gift tag...
Oh, and then my mind was spinning with all the ideas for cheap and free gift wrap possibilities. That's when I headed to Pinterest....

Oh man....

Just one search for upcycling and you can fill your schedule with things to try!

Luckily I managed some semblance of self-control and only opted to attempt reusing a milk jug. You see, I need a gift for the lady that runs our milk co-op. Isn't that clever? A container for cookies out of a milk jug? For the milk co-op lady?

LOL... well... as many things go on Pinterest, this is not nearly as easy or as cute as "they" make it look. But, I fussed with it long enough to make it into something presentable....
It's actually pretty cute. BUT, is not going to serve as a reusable and functional item...

....Especially since my husband left it on top of the car when he was headed to the co-op this past Saturday to deliver it. Turns out this does not hold up well when falling from a moving car. Oops.

Oh my.... well, it's the thought that counts, right?

A Coptic Attempt...

(Please note, affiliate links are used in this post. Thank you for your continued support!)

Oh how I love the look of Coptic Binding!

I've always wanted to give this a try and after many many hours of watching various YouTube tutorials, I decided to give it a go....

Let me tell you, it is simple in concept, but not the least bit easy!

Ah - but I love trying new things and this was no exception!

Speaking of trying new things... the covers of this book are adhered with some recent Gelli Prints of mine... as well as the insides of the front and back...
 More on that later...

I really do like how this turned out! And... I made it as a gift, so hopefully she likes it too!

See you soon!

Oh Brother... Christmas Card Swap!

(Please note... affiliate links are used throughout this post. Thank you for your continued support!)
Welcome back to another installment of the Oh Brother series... a blog series chronicling my adventures in learning my Brother ScanNCut.

I recently blogged about my adventures in making my first ACT cards for a swap. Well, we also swapped Christmas cards! And, for these little cuties, I decided to create my own doodled Christmas Tree Cut File...

I simply sketched it out with a sharpie, scanned it in, and ta da! Instant trees!

The coolest part about that is that I was able to cut out multiples and layer them up! Oh... and that little "rejoice" title? My handwriting! Yep - just wrote it, scanned it, and cut it!

And that fun little circle background was creating using my own handmade stencil too...
I know they are just dots... but they are MY dots and I love them!

And here is the finished card... complete with matching envelope!

Those labels? Curtesy of the built in shape selections on my machine!

Thanks for stopping by...see you soon!
