Roundup and Recap - April 2014

Hello, hello! April is coming to an end... so, I believe it's time for a little R and R. And by that, I mean...

That's right! Welcome to the end-of-month newsletter style post, here at The Mailbox.

This is the time and place where I will share what has caught my eye around the web, things I am loving, what I hope to try soon, and more...

Let's jump right in, shall we?

Wellll.... we had a pretty big month, with the addition of another little human and all.
I know, I know... many of you are wondering if you missed the big "announcement" and all.

No, you didn't. I haven't officially announced anything here on ye ole blog. I might have mentioned something on Instagram, though:)

What can I say, this is a crafting blog and I tend to be a little funny about posting personal things unless they are piled high in a stack of pretty paper and embellishments. But, in case you are just dying to see something more concrete... I promise you will see more soon. More on that below...

I also had the pleasure of crafting up a little video for a guest spot over at shimelle.com. That went live today and I would love for you to check it out!
While I have been thoroughly enjoying my fourth little bundle of cuteness, I have let the blog do it's thing with a month's worth of pre-scheduled posts. I do hope you all have enjoyed the things that have been posted over the last month!

While most of May's posts have been pre-scheduled as well... I have been able to get back in the studio a bit and have some fun things yet to come!
When time has permitted, I have been keeping up with my favorite blogs this past month, although I must confess that my comments have been taking the back burner.

It's funny how reading a post doesn't take much time, but commenting does! So... if I usually comment on your blog and haven't been... my apologies! Please know I am still reading and enjoying :)

I actually think that's quite common nowadays. People tend to be responding in other ways... Pinterest, Instagram, Etc...

But, I digress....
Anyhoo... I caught this post from Tammy this morning and just loved her roundup on Gelatos. Be sure to check it out!
  • Hoping to make a journal covered with fabric...
  • Wanting to take some more time to soak in inspiration...
  • Needing to catch up on some of my favorite video crafters...
  • Pondering how to put my new little We R 4x4 album to use...

This weekend is National Scrapbooking Day!!! Whoooot! Remember how I mentioned above that there would be more about baby soon?

Well, I may just have an upcoming post on the Simon Says Stamp Blog featuring the first layouts of our little girl. I do hope you will stop by the Simon Blog on Saturday to check that out!
And... coming Friday here at The Mailbox, a mixed media canvas video!

Thanks for stopping by and I will see you soon!

Good Morning Sunshine...

Happy Monday! We have a new challenge for you up on the Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge blog.

From soft buttery yellow to electric neon - this week we challenge you to be inspired by yellow!

When I think of yellow, I think of sunshine. And, when I think of sunshine, I think of morning time.

As you can see from the photo below... morning person, I am indeed not!
So... let's scrap a page about that!

First up, a bit of yellow ink to smooshy about the page:
likey so...
And now for some stencil and modeling paste action. I chose this stencil because it reminds me of a sunshine...
With that mostly dry, it's time to have fun layering up some bits...
And squishing things into place...
Perhaps some more sunshine is in order?
And with the usual finishing touches of journaling, doodles, and pen lines...
There we have it!
I had more fun pressing all of those little bits into the modeling paste!
And I do think this is a fun thing to include in the album as well!

So... now it's your turn! Go get crafty and link-up with us!

Every week a random winner is chosen to win a $50 spending spree from SimonSaysStamp.com.

How awesome is that?

Trying On a Trend... And A Video!

Welcome back to another installment of our video series here at the Mailbox, Trying On a Trend. For more info on this series, please take a look at our first post.

All set? Great! For our next trend let's try frames...
(Having trouble viewing the embedded video? Direct link here: http://youtu.be/iPLnYOgWP_0)

Oh, I think it is safe to say that frames are still a difficulty for me. But, it was fun to try and I still have some of those frames in the stash, so you never know what might come of them.

While I might not be in love with frames, I do indeed love this photo and am glad to have it ready for the album!

Thanks for watching. Have a great weekend!

Choose Wisely...

I have another layout to add to my new "Love, From Mom" Album. If you missed the video introduction post regarding this project, take a look here.

All caught up? GREAT!

Let's scrap a new page.

I want my girls to choose their friends wisely. This is a tricky and learned skill, of course. But that envelope there will contain my thoughts on this...

And it is indeed my hope that they will one day read and consider what I have to say on this subject :)
To get started, I thought a stitched grid to break up the circular polka dot pattern might be nice...

Then, I ran out of white thread. So... we have a partial grid. That's ok. Let's go with it...
I have my basic layout worked up here and now I want to incorporate some of these mixed media off cuts to add some more interest and texture...
And, those are giving me trouble. So... let's try something with the title in the mean time. Modeling paste with Thickers squishied in might be fun?
Yes! I like it! Now for photo placement and such...
Yay! Things are moving along now. Turns out that those mixed media off cuts looked better scattered about the page and not confined to the stitched grid...
And with my journaling in the pocket...

There we have it!
Here's to them learning to choose wisely...
 With Love,
 From mom...
Thanks for stopping by! See you soon!

Stamping a Little Girl in a Big Way...

Happy Monday! We have a new challenge for you up on the Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge blog.

Whether it is a background, large image, pattern, or maybe just a big stamp pad – this week is all about the big stamp!

With a new little one around here, we are blessed to have lots and lots of thank you notes to write these days. I decided to take this opportunity to use a new stamp in a big way - as the feature on a card!

See this little cutie? She is from the Dear Lizzy Daydreamer Stamp Set and I just LOVE her...
I'm thinking a soft watercolor effect will be nice, so I have gathered my distress inks...
A little blending and spritzing onto my stamp and I get this...
I like her, but want to try some more options...

Here they all are! I think I like the one on the bottom in the middle...
She gets cut out and set aside. Now to emboss my sentiment...
Perfection! This sentiment stamp, a Simon exclusive designed by Kelly Purkey, is one of the most versatile stamps I own...
A few scraps gathered and our sentiment becomes a lovely little prize ribbon embellishment...
And here are all the elements ready to assemble!
 Like this!
Oh yes, adorable little girl stamp... you are indeed the best thing!
So... now it's your turn! Go get crafty and link-up with us! Every week a random winner is chosen to win a $50 spending spree from SimonSaysStamp.com.

How awesome is that?

Here is my supply list :)
