Into the Driftwood...

We are taking a trip into the woods this week at the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge Blog.

Whether you’re a rugged lumberjack or out for a casual stroll in the woods, are inspired by adorable woodland creatures or want the chance to play with wood grain products this week we invite you to join us on a creative walk into the woods. Create something inspired by a mountain wildflower meadow, in a forest friendly color palette, or perhaps something whimsical with fairies or wood sprites! There is a lot of room for creative interpretation this week from using a wood grain patterned paper to an owl stamp and anything in between - have fun!

The theme of this challenge gave me the perfect opportunity to scrapbook about my family's favorite place... Driftwood Beach! It is this little slice of gorgeousness on Jekyll Island, GA. There is tree-sized driftwood all along the coast. Pictures never really do it justice. It is truly amazing!

To get started, I pulled some woodsy papers from my stash, as well as my photos:
I really love that wood pattern from Alison Kreft and Webster's Pages, so I decide to leave it as one long piece and align my photos accordingly. Next up... fussy cut!
Now, before I add that to the page, I would like a bit more texture. I love the way hand stitching looks and I think that the rustic texture of that would be perfect for this page. Thing is, I can't stand the time it takes. I can be patient with a lot of things. Hand stitching is not one of them. So... what if I use some raffia and do a bit of a messy approach to the stitching and throw precision out the window? I think that might be one reason I don't have the patience for all that stitching. Precision and I do not get a long...
Here we go! First, I just staple it to the top of the page...
I leave it a bit curled and set about stitching...
 I like that!
 A bit more embroidery thread...
With that added, I set about working on my layers and title:
And brads. Look at that brand new pack! Yay!
 A doodley doo...

And there we have it!
A page about our little slice of the Good Life :)

Alrighty! Now it's your turn to play. I can't wait to see your interpretation of this fun challenge. Don't forget to link-up with us!

  2. Love love love your climbing branches...too cool! Gorgeous layout Ashli!

  3. Ashli...this is amazing! I love what you've done with the raffia running up the center of your page...very creative and fun! Funny how that just sets the tone for the whole page. All of the bright flowers and embellishments you've used on this layout really work beautifully with the background papers you've chosen. I particularly like the strip the looks like colored strips of wood. Those photographs are just nestled in all of that colorful woodsy fun! <3 Candy

  4. Wowzers - I think this is my new favorite of yours.

  5. For the love of cuteness, super page Ashli!!! I really like how the raffia looks with the bright colors, woodgrain, and flowers. I have soo much raffia and really no good clue how it got passed down to me - ha! I went through a phase and used it a lot then stashed it back away. Inspiring to see you use it. The photos you selected make me wanna go there - looks so peaceful and serene, with adventure waiting to happen.
