Passport to the Beach!

It's all about travel this week at Simon Says Stamp and Show. Whether you have two tickets to paradise or you really just want a reason to create something with your Tim Holtz travel blueprint stamps this is the week for you! We invite you to join us in creating something travel themed in some way. Perhaps a card inspired by the colors of the tropics? Going to use that postmark stamp you never seem to find on your projects? Want to wish someone bon voyage or decorate a notebook for your next road trip?
You’re cleared for take-off on this week’s challenge!

Our annual family beach trip is just a few weeks away. I typically bring some sorts of artsy craftsy goods with me to play with, but I have never had a little book to journal about the trip as it happens. This is the year to change that!

To get started, I have an assortment of Lily Bee, Studio Calico, and SMASH 365 papers...
I want this awesome camera paper to be my cover. To give it a little body, I just adhered a sheet of sticky back canvas to the back:
I do love these cameras, but I want a brighter, more beachy look. So, a little white paint...
Smooshied and dabbed around...
Gives me this! You know what else? This paper did not warp... not one bit! Hooray for Sticky Back Canvas!!!
Now, to bring back those cameras. A little outlining with my Bold Pitt Pen...
And some highlighting with some more of that white...
And then I just sprayed, spritzed, sprinkled, and played...
 Until I had this:
All cut in two and ready to become my covers! See how flat those are? Seriously. All of that wet medium play and not one bit of buckling or warping! I will definitely be using that Sticky Back Canvas trick again.
While that completely dried, I simply took all of my papers and cut them into various sizes:
Then, I stacked them all and clipped them together:
 Then punched my holes:
 And added my rings:
OK! With my book all bound and together, it's time to embellish. First.. the cover:
Then, the inside. I just grabbed all of my offcuts from the papers I worked with for the interior pages...
Along with some envelopes and washi...
And just set about adding little bits here and there.
Along with some stamping...
And a little bit of wax too...
With sequins embedded:
Lots of lovely little papers and bits:
Ready for some beachy creative play:
And ephemera collected along the way:
I can't wait to start adding my memories:
And enjoying all the little things:
 While away at the beach...
 St Simon's, here I come!
Okie Dokie! You know the drill. Now it's your turn to play. Go get crafty and link-up with us!

  1. Ashli...very cool memory book. Your cover looked so fun to make. The transformation from the basic black and white paper to the colorful, fun cover that emerged is amazing! Love the colorful sheen those Heidi Swapp sprays give. I really like the way you put the inside of your book together...various sizes, patterns and colors all mixed together to form the pages. The washi tape and other small bits of papers you've used as embellishments for journaling on your interior pages looks great! Really cute project! <3 Candy

  2. Lovely book Ashli, love how you muted the background paper and then used a Pitt pen to add detail back in. Those sprays are gorgeous and the colours are very eye catching. Love your mix of elements and papers too. Tracy x

I adore the cover and too am smitten with sticky back - I have hoards of it for fear they may stop making it - haha! The colors you created with are perfect for the beach and I really like how you muted down the cameras and then popped some back out!! Fantabulous work my friend! xo
