A Pinch of Water and a Dash of Bokeh

This week, it's all about water over at the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge blog!

You could literally use water (perhaps with some distress products for a cool effect!) on your project, you could use watercolor paper, watercolor pens, perhaps a water brush with some distress markers, or use water and paint to mix your own color wash. Not feeling the water? How about something with an ocean or tropical inspiration? Perhaps put a scrapbook together with those Caribbean photos, or decorate a frame to give to your friend just back from a cruise.

And remember...

You could even win a $50 shopping spree from Simon Says Stamp!
One lucky winner is drawn at random each week from all of our entries.

One of my favorite techniques is creating a resist with acrylic paint on watercolor paper. Now, combine that with one of my favorite trends...
Homemade bokeh, maybe?
Let's give it a try!

To get started, I have my photos that I have trimmed down to squares, a bit of watercolor paper, and my favorite stencil:
Before adding my acrylic paint, I just sprinkle in a bit of mist to tint it:
Ooooh....
YES! Pretty!
OK! With that dry, it is time to play with my watercolors. See this lovely pastel rainbow of paint chips? They will make it onto the project in a bit, but for now they will serve as my color inspiration as I dip into my watercolors!
A little dab here, a little splatter there...
Ta Da! That's looking "bokeh-ish," I would say :)
While that dries, let's get to work on the title. I would like it to be neutral and not take away from the painting and photos that I have going on. So, I am thinking a little spritzing and watercolor action on a scrap paper will do nicely....
And, cut out with my Tim Holtz Alpha die... it sure does!
Here's is what we are working with so far. I like it, but it needs a little something more....
Paint Chips! Remember those? All punched out and ready to help complete this handmade "bokeh" effect:
 Popped around here and there....
A little pen work and misting:
Title and twine...
And mounted onto a sheet of kraft...
TA DA!
What fun this was, playing with paint and colors to create a handmade "bokeh!"

What will you do with water this week? I love how many different ways there are to interpret this theme and I can't wait to see yours! Don't forget to link-up

  5. Ashli. Your layout is so cute! I love the bubble stencil that you used for the background. I love how you've added the splashes of pastel colors around them. That looks amazing! The photographs are absolutely darling and I love how you've placed them amongst the bubbles. The letters look fantastic; how you've colored and outlined them and placed them "just so" on the layout. Beautifully done! <3 Candy
