One of my family's Christmas traditions is participating in our dear friend's cookie swap. Well, for my family the tradition is mostly that I come home with a bag full to the brim of homemade cookies. But for me, the tradition is much more than that. Joy, affectionately referred to as "Joyful," puts her heart and sole into creating a perfect evening of food, fun and friends. It wouldn't be Christmas without it! So, I wanted to create a personalized journal to give her as a hostess gift.

First up, a lovely piece of sticky-back canvas. I LOVE this stuff!

A bit of stencil action...

And after completing one of my favorite techniques of a paint resist and colored mist, my canvas gets a good crumple:

And there she is! All stretched out on a lovely piece of Lilybee paper:

A simple stitch down the spine with some white paper completes the basic foundation:

Now, let's decorate the cover! I have fussy cut out the graphic from the cover sheet of the Basic Grey PB+J collection and combined it with some fringed tissue:

Now, I want a little bling, so out comes the big gun! A little heat embossed silver on a scrap tag ought to do the trick:

Yep! That provides a nice base for my cluster:

With my letters on, I just smooshy on some Distress Stickles to add some more sparkle and to act as a nice sealant to insure that no letter falls off...

A little extra pattern for the inside...

And then some simple little tabs made out of scrap paper and adhered with wash:

A little note to my sweet friend:

A little extra twine...
And there we have it!
Have Yourself a Joyful Little Christmas!

  1. Great little album Ashli! I'm not that much the messy type of person, but as I need a small album as a present I will get some ideas from yours ;) Great usage of the embossed tag - I've got tons of embossing powder and hardly ever use it! Thanks for sharing and your inspiration! x

  2. Beautiful fun colors and gorgeous embellishments! What a lovely gift and your cookie party sounds wonderful!

  3. Love how quickly this journal came together yet its stunning upon sight!! Sticky back canvas is one of my favs as well and I always have a huge amount of it on hand!!! :) I think my favorite feature of this has to be the twine loops coming out of the sides - how is it they are not all flopsy mopsy?? You are a twine master my friend and your friend will love this journal!

  4. Such a beautiful little book and gift.
